Have you tried it?

Only answer if you've tried AI assistant (ChatGPT, Claude…). What did it do for you?

What is it?

AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini respond to requests you type or speak. People use them to draft text, explain unfamiliar material, practise languages, explore ideas and work with code. Depending on the tool, you can also provide files or ask it to search for information. You can refine the request through conversation rather than getting every instruction right at the start.

A polished answer can still be wrong. An assistant may invent a source, miss a detail in a document or run with a mistaken assumption you supplied. Using the result means checking it, and that becomes harder when you lack the knowledge needed to spot the mistake.

What does it cost?

Free plans have usage limits, while subscriptions offer more access or additional features. As one reference point, Claude Pro lists monthly billing at US$20 before applicable taxes. Prices vary by country and plan, so check the actual checkout amount rather than assuming every assistant costs the same.

Payment does not remove every usage limit or make answers reliable. Try the tool on work you actually do: if explaining the task and repairing the output takes longer than doing it yourself, the subscription is not saving you time. Several modest subscriptions can also add up.

When is it not worth it?

You may not need a paid plan for occasional questions, especially when the free version or a quick search is enough. Before sharing work documents, check what your employer permits and what the service does with uploaded information. A working upload button is not permission to share a file.

Having an assistant complete every task can also take away the practice you need to learn. For consequential decisions, fluent language is a poor substitute for a sound basis: health, financial and legal questions need dependable sources and attention to your circumstances, not just a plausible answer.

Self-reported experiences, not medical advice. High scores mean people reported strong positive effects. They do not mean something is safe, effective long-term, or appropriate for you. Self-reports can miss delayed harms, dependence, withdrawal, side effects, and selection bias. Don't start or stop a medication because of a chart.
