What is it?

An electric toothbrush moves its bristles while you guide the head around your teeth. Designs include oscillating and vibrating heads in different sizes. Some add a timer or a warning when you press too hard. People use one to make daily brushing easier without producing all the brushing motion by hand.

The motor does not establish whether you have reached every tooth surface. You can finish when the timer sounds and still miss areas. It also does not replace cleaning between teeth or the dental appointments you need. Better equipment adds little if you rush through brushing or skip it.

What does it cost?

The cost includes the handle, replacement heads and any batteries or charging equipment the model needs. Check the price and availability of compatible heads. Screens, apps and additional modes can make one model much more expensive than another.

Replacement heads remain an expense long after the initial discount. Even heads from the same brand may not fit every range. Repairability matters too: a failed battery can mean replacing the whole handle if there is no practical repair option.

When is it not worth it?

You do not have to switch if you use a manual brush comfortably and clean all the necessary surfaces. Noise, vibration or another charger to pack may also make an electric model less appealing.

Paying for features you ignore can complicate a simple daily task. Frequent bleeding, pain or other ongoing symptoms also need attention beyond a different brush. The device cannot tell you what is wrong or replace an appropriate dental assessment.

Self-reported experiences, not medical advice. High scores mean people reported strong positive effects. They do not mean something is safe, effective long-term, or appropriate for you. Self-reports can miss delayed harms, dependence, withdrawal, side effects, and selection bias. Don't start or stop a medication because of a chart.
