Second monitor

A second monitor gives your computer another screen on which to arrange windows. You can keep reference material beside a draft, compare spreadsheets or leave a video call visible while using other software. A laptop's built-in display can remain part of the setup.

Extra space can also keep more distractions in view. An inbox, chat window and news feed beside your work may make staying with one task harder. It helps to know which two things you actually need to see together before buying more screen space.

A basic work monitor can cost around €100 in Spain, with larger or higher-resolution models costing more. A cable, adapter or stand may be extra. Check which display combinations your computer supports and how they connect.

A cramped desk or incompatible laptop can turn a simple purchase into several more. A connector that physically fits does not guarantee the arrangement will work. Include adapters and mounting hardware in the budget before ordering the screen.

You may get little from another monitor if you mainly work in one window, move between locations or already have enough room for your documents on the existing display. The purchase needs a task that makes use of it.

If fitting it in pushes your keyboard aside or keeps your neck turned, the extra space has come with an awkward working position. And a display devoted to distracting messages may do the opposite of what you bought it for.
