What is it?
Meditation includes many practices. In a common form, you sit and pay attention to breathing, returning to it when you notice your mind has wandered. You can practise alone, follow a recording or attend a class. People try it for quiet time or to pay closer attention to their thoughts and feelings.
Sitting quietly does not guarantee relaxation. You may spend the session planning errands or replaying an argument. Noticing distraction is part of the exercise; finishing in a peaceful mood is not something you can demand of every session.

What does it take?
You need some time to pause and somewhere with few interruptions. A special cushion or paid app is optional. A guided recording can help explain what to do when you lose track.
The urge to check your phone or get up can be distracting. Boredom is different from becoming increasingly distressed, though. If meditation brings on strong anxiety or distress, stop rather than forcing yourself through it, and seek support.
Why do people quit?
You may forget, get bored or remain unsure what the practice is doing for you. Without a convenient time to sit down, something else can always seem more pressing.
You might also expect peace and finish just as angry as when you started. Meditation does not suit everyone. Keeping an app streak alive does not oblige you to describe the experience as helpful.

Self-reported experiences, not medical advice. High scores mean people reported strong positive effects. They do not mean something is safe, effective long-term, or appropriate for you. Self-reports can miss delayed harms, dependence, withdrawal, side effects, and selection bias. Don't start or stop a medication because of a chart.
