What I learned from my first SaaS
💰 My first SaaS was an intensive masterclass… in how NOT to do things.
The worst part: at the beginning, I had no idea what steps to take. It took me time, money, and patience to figure it out.
Here are 13 lessons that could save you months (and a lot of €) 🧵
1. Build something the market wants and is willing to pay for. Don’t try to create the need from scratch.
2. Product + marketing = 90% of success. Code and design matter less than you think.
3. One feature, but make it flawless. Everything else is noise.
4. Marketing is harder than coding. Get ready to spend more time outside the code editor than inside it.
5. Launch is just the beginning. Real traction comes after months of consistent work.
6. Charge from day one. Free attracts curious people, not customers.
7. Every new feature is future debt. Be brutally selective.
8. Consistency wins: it’s not the person who launches fastest, but the one who sticks with it the longest.
9. Support is part of the product. Neglect it, and everything else falls apart.
10. Don’t try to educate the market: sell where there’s already demand.
11. Your SaaS doesn’t need to be unique. It needs to be the most useful one for a specific niche.
12. Your first users aren’t customers; they’re partners who help you fine-tune things.
13. Scale only when things break because of excess demand. Before that, you’re burning time and money.
💡 These lessons cost me time, money, and patience...
If you’re building your SaaS, I hope they’re cheaper for you.
