What is it?

A carnivore diet limits food to animal products, usually meat, fish and eggs, sometimes with dairy. The strictest versions allow very few choices. Vegetables, fruit, beans and grains are excluded. People try it for weight goals, simpler meal decisions or symptoms they believe plant foods are causing.

Good evidence does not establish that removing all plant foods treats those symptoms or that the diet is safe long term. Feeling better after many exclusions cannot identify which food disagreed with you. Accounts from people still following the diet may also miss those who stopped because it went badly.

What does it take?

The rules are easy to remember but difficult to fit into every meal. Shopping, cooking, eating out and sharing food all change. Losing inexpensive staples such as rice and beans can also increase the grocery bill.

The diet supplies virtually no fiber and may leave other nutrient needs unmet. Depending on your choices, it can be high in saturated fat and raise cholesterol. Kidney disease or diabetes medication makes a prior medical review particularly important. Do not change treatment on advice from an online group.

Why do people quit?

Repetitive meals, missing fruit and continually changing shared dinners can wear you down. Constipation, diarrhea, tiredness and cost are other reasons to stop. Simple rules do not make a routine easy to live with.

Feeling unwell should not be dismissed as an adaptation phase you must endure. Feeling more energetic also does not make worsening blood results unimportant. You can ask for help returning to a varied diet; bringing foods back is not failure or a reason to restrict further.

Self-reported experiences, not medical advice. High scores mean people reported strong positive effects. They do not mean something is safe, effective long-term, or appropriate for you. Self-reports can miss delayed harms, dependence, withdrawal, side effects, and selection bias. Don't start or stop a medication because of a chart.
