Have you tried it?

Only answer if you've tried Mediterranean diet. What did it do for you?

What is it?

Mediterranean-style eating centres meals on vegetables, fruit, beans, grains, nuts and olive oil. Fish, eggs and dairy may also feature, with less red and processed meat. People choose it as a broad way to organise eating rather than a fixed menu. Lentil soup, roasted vegetables or a chickpea salad can fit without specialist products.

Adding olive oil doesn't make an otherwise unchanged diet Mediterranean. Living in the region doesn't establish that you eat this way either. You don't need wine to follow the pattern, and a Mediterranean label on a packet doesn't tell you much about the rest of your meals.

What does it take?

Build a few meals you can repeat and keep their ingredients available. Cooked beans, frozen vegetables and familiar grains can reduce the amount of preparation needed. Adapting meals you already make is an option; you don't need a new recipe every evening.

Fish, nuts and olive oil can make shopping more expensive, while cooking still takes time. Requiring everything to be fresh and prepared from scratch that night can make the plan unnecessarily difficult. Canned and frozen ingredients can have a place too.

Why do people quit?

It often fades when a broad intention never turns into dinners you actually want and can make. You arrive home late with nothing prepared and return to familiar convenience meals. Shared shopping and cooking can add disagreement.

There is no finish line or guaranteed dramatic change to announce that it is working. Waiting for one can become discouraging. A plan that only works during an unusually quiet week is likely to disappear whenever ordinary pressures return.

Self-reported experiences, not medical advice. High scores mean people reported strong positive effects. They do not mean something is safe, effective long-term, or appropriate for you. Self-reports can miss delayed harms, dependence, withdrawal, side effects, and selection bias. Don't start or stop a medication because of a chart.
