Bring marketing and product onto your turf

If you’re an engineer and don’t like doing marketing or product, here’s my advice:

bring it onto your turf.

Measure conversions, run A/B tests, analyze engagement, look at funnels, compare cohorts, find patterns.

Turn everything into data and metrics you can interpret, discuss, and optimize.

Of course, this doesn’t exempt you from learning the basics of marketing and product. But it does make working in these fields a lot less abstract.

And above all, a lot less uncomfortable.

Launching new products is scary. A ton of hours spent on something that might end up being worth nothing. And the closer you get to the finish line, the more you want to say fuck it all.
